The Role of the Tutor. These sessions will focus on the role of the tutor in a secondary school; the impact and potential for academic mentoring and how the well being agenda will impact upon the school and the individual teacher. While every school will have different systems for ensuring pupils receive pastoral care, each school will need to bridge the academic and pastoral divide and the role of tutors is influential in this. Support for tutoring can often be forgotten and yet the ECM agenda is requiring schools to link well being to achievement and performance. This session will focus on how the NQT can improve their effectiveness in this area.
The Role of the Tutor. Led by Sara Chandler. Two sessions in January dates still to be confirmed.

This training aims to provide a greater insight into how data is used and how teachers can use the available data to have a positive effect in the classroom. The session will include: • Introduction to published national data • Awareness of school specific data provided by DfE and OFSTED and useful interpretations that can impact in the classroom • Ideas about monitoring, tracking and recording and suggestions on how to analyse your data – hopefully a workshop session using data from a group you have taught. • A workshop session to understand and use Fischer Family Trust (FFT) data more effectively.
Data for Learning - Led by Helen Stenson.
MEd in Professional Studies. Arrangements are in place for those of you who wish to start or continue the journey towards a Masters qualification in your induction year. If you wish to enrol for the MEd in Professional Studies it will be possible to import appropriate certificated or experiential M level credit gained during your PGCE or GTP course and to continue your studies, at a pace to suit you. The modules will be open to all qualified teachers who wish to enrol for the MEd Professional Studies and will explore themes that are particularly pertinent to new and recently qualified colleagues. There will be 3 twilight teaching sessions for each module. If numbers allow these will take place in 4 venues across the county to avoid the need for long journeys after school. The assessment for the modules is via a set of short tasks that have been designed to enable you to extend and apply the focus of the sessions in school. It will be necessary to undertake some reading and to spend time working on assessments tasks in-between module sessions. If you would like to enrol for the MEd Professional Studies please contact Jo Sayce or Will Wain at Med.info@glos.ac.uk. The fees for this course will be covered by Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) Postgraduate Professional Development (PPD) Funding but numbers are limited and it is necessary to apply as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

They will be practical sessions focusing on jargon busting and ensuring that you fully understand the practical implications of this key agenda for you, for schools and for the success of young people in your care.
